Solita has been chosen as the ‘most family-leave-friendly workplace’ in Finland. The recognition, given for the first time by the Mothers in Business organisation, is awarded to a company that has exemplarily succeeded in developing its practices to support the balancing of family and work.

The technology, data, and design company Solita has been selected as the ‘most family-leave-friendly workplace’ in Finland. The recognition, now given for the first time, is granted by the Mothers in Business organisation – a network of almost 5,000 members in Finland. With this recognition, the organization aims to reward a company that has developed exemplary practices and company culture to support those expecting family additions, going on family leave, and returning to work as parents.

Solita, which has grown to an employer of over 2,000 employees in Europe, has long been developing a people-centric corporate culture. The technology company aims to make working life more humane and adaptable to people’s varying life situations.

“We are both honoured and surprised by the award – for us, family-friendliness is everyday life. To take people’s diverse life and family situations into account, as well as ensuring the smoothness of everyday life, is also in the employer’s interest. We want every employee to feel that their life situation is accepted and that they can come to work as themselves,” said Terhi Jaakonsaari, Solita’s HR Director in Finland.

What is a family-friendly company made of?

Solita’s commitment to supporting its employees’ family and work-life balance shows in many everyday practices of the company and the company-level collective agreement the company is committed to in Finland.

Solita’s approach to family-friendliness is comprehensive, offering, for example, paid leave for pregnancy, adoption, and parental responsibilities, with additional support for various family-related absences. Employees have the flexibility to adjust their working hours for personal reasons and access to mental health support services. Overall, Solita’s policies and practices demonstrate a strong commitment to accommodating the diverse needs of its workforce, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Solita’s family leave mentor helps maintain the connection with the community

An example of Solita’s family-friendly policies is the ‘family leave mentor’ programme developed by Solita. The voluntary family leave mentors act as a link between the employee on family leave and the workplace during the leave period – supporting the employee’s sense of connection to the work community and keeping them updated on workplace happenings even during their leave. The mentors also offer peer support when needed.

Solita was selected for this recognition from a pool of 127 companies. The award aims to draw attention to the fact that various, even small, investments in family-friendliness lead to long-term improvements in staff well-being, strengthening the company’s attractiveness and retention, as well as enhancing the balance between work and leisure time.
