Orchestrating the flow of cleaner energy
We helped Gasum to build Gasum Flow, a real-time data–driven logistics solution that connects sea and road transport, enhancing efficiency and transparency.
Gasum’s operations stretch across seas and roads, delivering cleaner energy throughout the Nordics. Together with Solita, Gasum built Gasum Flow, a modern logistics orchestration solution powered by real-time data. The system unifies maritime and road transport planning, improves operational visibility, and turns complex logistics into an intelligent, efficient flow.
-
Unified maritime and road logistics in a single planning tool
-
Visibility across operations, from terminals to transport
-
Faster response to changing customer demand and operational events
-
On-time, under-budget delivery with measurable operational efficiency gains
Implementing Gasum Flow has truly improved our management of operations. Our decision making is now more data driven with better demand visibility and accuracy. The cooperation between Gasum and Solita during the development phase worked seamlessly and was highly productive.

A puzzle of ships, trucks and terminals
As a leader in the Nordic green energy transition, Gasum’s mission is not just about supplying and producing cleaner energy; it is about delivering it to the maritime, traffic and industry customers. For Gasum operations, this translates into a highly complex, multi-modal logistics and supply chain planning puzzle that spans sea and land, from LNG tankers in the North Sea to compressed biogas (CBG) trucks across the Nordics.
To master this complexity, Gasum needed to modernise its logistics operations planning and orchestration tools. This project, a key part of our wider partnership, shows how a strong data foundation can be leveraged to create game-changing applications.
From fragmented systems to intelligent orchestration
Gasum’s logistics network is mission-critical. It involves steering LNG tanker operations across the Nordics, North Sea, and Baltic Sea, while simultaneously managing road transport for compressed and liquefied methane in Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
Previously, planning these interconnected operations was a significant challenge. The operations team needed a single, unified solution that could bring together data from disparate sources:
- Customer inventories and demand forecasts
- Gasum’s own terminal inventory levels
- Real-time operational data (OT data) from terminals
- Consumption forecasts and filling needs
- Data from ERP and Transport Management Systems (TMS)
The goal was to move from decoupled data and fragmented systems to unified, intelligent logistics operations orchestration.
The bedrock we have already built together – data platform with OT data acquisition – made it possible to shift the focus to business value. Gasum Flow is a perfect example of how mature data architecture accelerates operational applications modernisation and renewal.

Gasum Flow for unified operations
Building on the modern data and connectivity foundations already in place, Solita and Gasum co-created Gasum Flow, a dedicated solution for logistics planning and orchestration.
The project began by focusing on LNG maritime logistics, providing a single view to steer LNG tanker operations. The platform was built natively on Microsoft Azure services, leveraging the OT data layer on Databricks that was established in our wider data platform work. This existing IT/OT integration was a key enabler, providing the application with the real-time data it needed to be effective.
The solution was so successful that its scope was quickly expanded. The same Gasum Flow platform was extended and adapted to also manage the complex logistics of compressed biogas (CBG) transport by road, creating a true multi-modal logistics planning tool.
On time, under budget: A partnership built on trust
The Gasum Flow project stands out not only for its business impact but also for its smooth execution. It was delivered on time and below budget, based on several key success factors:
- A dedicated taskforce team: A focused, joint team of Gasum and Solita experts shared a clear vision for the solution and the agility to execute on time.
- A solid data foundation: Having the data platform, integrations, and OT telemetry already in place (via Databricks, TMS, and ERP) allowed the team to focus on building business logic.
- Clear business-driven priorities: The project had a precise, defined goal that directly addressed a critical business need.
This new tool, born from the powerful IT/OT feedback loop we’ve built with Gasum, directly modernises applications used in logistics planning and operations, turning data into decisive action and efficiency.
The Gasum Flow project is a perfect example of our partnership with Solita. By leveraging the foundations and collaborative model we’ve built together, we were able to modernise solutions critical for our core operations.
