As AI scales, leaders need to reassess competitive advantage and business-critical challenges. Solita has published its annual Ways of Tech report for 2026–2027, identifying five shifts leaders must address as AI reshapes competitive advantage, digital sovereignty, speed in value creation, security and talent models.

The new Ways of tech 2026–2027 report draws on the views of more than 30 digital transformation specialists, including Solita’s AI leaders across Europe. The report examines how AI is changing how organisations work, create value and future-proof their competitive advantages.

From pilots to structural AI: Five key themes to address

“Artificial intelligence is changing competition faster than many organisations expected. Advantages that once took years to build can now weaken quickly, as new capabilities suddenly become widely available and barriers to entry fall,” says Ossi Lindroos, CEO of Solita.

The report identifies five critical themes for AI transformation:

  • Safeguarding competitive advantage
  • Strengthening AI sovereignty by reducing dependencies
  • Redesigning value delivery for AI-enabled speed beyond agile
  • Governing new security risks and the cost-effectiveness of agentic AI
  • Renewing talent models for an AI-native workforce

“To move further with AI, organisations need to rethink how work flows across functions, how technology dependencies are managed, and how governance, security and talent evolve with AI”, says Solita’s Chief Strategy Officer Jouni Wallander.

The report highlights that organisations should structure AI around value streams instead of siloed departments. The structural AI approach combines value stream thinking with agentic execution to move from isolated efficiency gains to measurable business outcomes.

It also underlines the growing importance of secure AI development, reliable data foundations and active cost management as AI adoption scales.

Aimed at leaders making decisions on AI, business transformation, architecture, governance, security and talent, the report helps organisations focus on the shifts that matter most now and make more confident choices in a fast-changing environment.
