Meet our People of Solita. We have over 2200 employees in various locations with different skills and backgrounds, each with a story to share about what they do and what inspires them. This is the story of Simon Löfwander, who works as a Data Science Consultant at Solita in Stockholm. Simon recently returned to Solita after spending a few years on the client side, bringing back new perspectives and broader expertise.

I missed the variety of consulting and Solita’s culture

I originally joined Solita through the acquisition of Ferrologic back in 2019. Since then, I’ve worked with many different customers and industries, from telecom to construction and now forestry. At one point, I decided to join one of my client companies and spent a couple of years there in a more operational role before returning to Solita earlier this year.

Leaving and coming back gave me a valuable new perspective. I learned a lot during my time away, especially around systems thinking, products, and how larger organisations operate. But I missed the variety that consulting offers, and the work culture attracted me back here.

Many companies talk about culture, but at here people really come first. There’s a strong sense of trust, openness, and continuous learning that’s difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it yourself.

Coming back also felt like a good next move because I was ready to use my new skills and broader perspective in new environments and customer cases that a consulting job makes possible.

Solving new problems is the best part of my job

One of the things I enjoy the most about consulting is constantly stepping into new problem spaces. I’ve learned that I thrive when I’m challenged and continuously learning new things.

As a consultant, you often enter industries you know very little about at first. Right now, for example, I’m working in the forestry industry, which was completely new to me before this assignment. There’s always a lot to learn; not only technically, but also about the business itself, how decisions are made, and how organisations operate.

That’s something I really enjoy: sitting between data and business. Understanding both perspectives and making sure what we build creates value.

At Solita, learning is actively encouraged

The data and AI space evolves incredibly fast, and staying curious is essential. One thing I’ve always appreciated here is how much learning is encouragedThere are plenty of internal communities, learning platforms, training opportunities, and knowledgeable colleagues to learn from. But perhaps most importantly, learning also happens naturally through the work itself.

Every customer, every industry, and every assignment teaches you something new. You continuously need to adapt, challenge your thinking, and stay close to what’s happening in the field.

I also appreciate that professional growth at Solita isn’t treated as a one-size-fits-all journey. There’s a genuine dialogue around what you want to learn, which direction you want to take, and what kind of assignments motivate you.

Values are visible in everyday work

One thing that stood out to me when I returned was how strongly Solita’s values still shape the everyday work. For me, the value “easygoing” is very tangible in the culture. Everyone is approachable, supportive, and highly competent at the same time. There’s always someone to bounce ideas off, discuss concepts with, or just have a good conversation with after work.

I also see a lot of courage in the culture. We are encouraged to question things and speak up if something doesn’t make sense. Not in a confrontational way, but because we genuinely want to help customers solve the right problems.

That mindset connects to our mission of creating impact that lasts. It’s not about delivering something just because it was requested. It’s about understanding the bigger picture and making sure the work supports meaningful outcomes.

Mentoring has continued to be a rewarding area for me

I’ve had the opportunity to take on more mentoring recently, which has been very rewarding. A lot of that work focuses on helping structure problem-solving before jumping into technical implementation. How do we define the right problem? How do we ensure the solution connects to real business decisions and workflows? How do we make sure what we build will actually be used?

I find those discussions very meaningful because they connect technology to real-world impact. It’s not only about building something technically correct, but something that’s genuinely valuable.

From a ski season in Canada to finding Solita

A funny coincidence in my Solita journey actually connects back to a ski season in Canada many years ago.

When I was younger, I spent time skiing in Canada. Someone from that skiing community ended up joining Solita many years later, and through him, I eventually found my way here too. A few years after I joined, another person from that same community also ended up joining. Funny how small the world is!

Family life, trail running, and time outdoors

Outside of work, a lot of my time naturally revolves around family life. We have two kids, a three-year-old and another who is only a few weeks old, so life is quite full at the moment.

Whenever I can, I also enjoy spending time outdoors. Trail running and mountain biking are probably my biggest hobbies these days. I enjoy movement, nature, and a bit of adrenaline too.
