EVBox improved data platform: more input, faster analyses and new insights

EVBox is a Dutch company that produces charging stations for electric vehicles. Partly because the software for the charging stations is built in-house, EVBox has loads of data. Therefore, EVBox partnered with Solita to exploit the full potential of all that input. Our experts are thus jointly responsible for further developing their central data platform. ‘In the new system, specific data can be analysed in five minutes instead of five hours.’

The complexity of EVBox’s extensive business processes generates lots of data, such as product information, the customer’s journey, financial data and sales numbers. Maintaining an overview in this inexhaustible source of very diverse data is an enormous challenge for EVBox. Yet, it’s important to successfully process the data and get to work with all the information. Or rather: to put all the information to work.

One platform, endless insights

Besides maintaining the existing platform, one of the first objectives was to improve the system by adding significantly more input sources while ensuring and improving the data quality. Consequently, EVBox’ financial, product, sales, social media, security, and customer data emerged into one platform. Furthermore, Data Engineers installed logic on top of it all. 

From now on EVBox can cross-reference different data sources, enabling rapid and profound analysis. Accordingly, this provides new and important business insights.  

It wasn’t only important to centralise all data in one place. The challenge was mainly to design a data model that could really work with all the data immediately. Before, we had to search each separate underlying system. Now EVBox can do some analyses in five minutes instead of five hours. Without going into all the technical details, that’s quite a feat.

IoT solution to enable immediate analysis

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the interconnection via the internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data. Each EVBox charging station is connected to a central server. This way, data can be analysed immediately, on the spot. And that brings many advantages, both in the short and long term.

Suppose you have an electric car, and you are planning a road trip. Then it’s crucial for drivers to know where available charging stations are located. Moreover, if a charging station should malfunction for some reason, up-to-date data can also ensure that adjustments can be made quickly and efficiently. This also gives EVBox the ability to communicate directly when needed, informing users instantly of what’s going on.

Win-win co-operation

The successful cooperation between Solita and EVBox resulted in a win-win situation. EVBox challenged Solita’s experts to come up with stable and compatible data solutions in a relatively short time, despite the complexity of all business processes. On the other hand, because of better and faster data utilisation, EVBox can now do certain analyses 60 times faster.

Overall, the seamless cooperation between EVBox and Solita enabled rapid development in a complex business environment, resulting in connected data streams that are reliable, secure, traceable and transparent.
