The winner of the 2025 Plan Girl Award in Finland will be chosen in October by a jury made up of members who promote human rights and gender equality in different sectors of society. The work of the nominees may involve, for example, preventing gender-based violence, exploitation, or female genital mutilation, or advancing diversity in education and working life.
Long-term commitment
This is the second time Solita partners with Plan on the Girl Award. The company continues its long-term work to promote diversity and inclusion. Earlier, the Women in Tech network named Solita the third best workplace in the world for women in technology as the only Finnish company among the finalists.
“As some parts of the world are worryingly moving backwards in terms of equality, we in the Nordics and Europe can set an example by moving in the opposite direction. Gender equality strengthens innovation, collaboration, and competitiveness – and that’s why it is important to us as a company and to me personally as the father of two daughters,” said Ossi Lindroos, CEO of Solita.
Winner to be announced in October
The finalists for the 2025 award are: Vammaiset tytöt (disabled girls), Millariikka Rytkönen, and Adina Nivukoski. The winner will be announced on October 9.
The Plan Girl Award has become an established part of the international organization’s work in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. It has been well received and gained wide visibility, with a broad range of nominations put forward. In Finland, the award’s sponsors include, in addition to Solita, SOK, Huhtamäki, Roschier, and City of Helsinki. Alongside the Girl Award, corporate partnerships also make it possible to support Plan’s equality work in several other countries.
The jury for the Plan Girl Award includes SOK’s Director of Media Päivi Anttikoski, Member of Parliament and Plan board member Fatim Diarra (Green Party), Member of Parliament Pihla Keto-Huovinen (National Coalition Party), Mimmit koodaa program lead Milja Köpsi, sexologist and social media influencer Joonas Pesonen, Professor Helena Ranta, activist Katariina Räikkönen, and journalist-author Rauli Virtanen. This year, the jury will be chaired by media and social media personality and speaker Sointu Borg.
In 2024, the Plan Girl Award was won by the Mimmit koodaa program and was presented to Milja Köpsi, who co-founded the program with the support of technology companies.
