Meet our People of Solita. We have over 2,200 employees in various locations with different skills and backgrounds – each with a story to share about what they do and what inspires them. This is the story of Stiig, who works as a Senior Software Developer in Solita’s Lifecycle business area in Denmark. He’s been part of Solita’s team since 2020.

I never want to get too far away from coding

My true passion is development and code. Even though I really enjoy working closely with customers and delivering value through collaboration, I never want to get too far away from the technical side of things.

Today, my role is very versatile. My team lead once described me as a “Swiss army knife,” which is probably quite accurate. I work both as a Software Developer and in lead and architectural roles, while also supporting areas like security, GDPR, and IT compliance. I have a background in both software development and IT support, and I also completed a degree in IT security. That combination has made it possible for me to work across many different areas, from coding and architecture to infrastructure and security-related topics.

My typical day involves five different projects at once

No day really looks the same for me, although there’s still a certain rhythm to the work. Typically, I’m involved in several projects simultaneously, switching between tasks, customers, and different types of responsibilities throughout the day. Some moments are focused on development, others on customer discussions, planning, architecture, or solving technical issues.

There’s a lot of variety, but also a lot of flexibility. I appreciate being able to structure my own workday and manage my time independently. That freedom and variation are probably some of the things I enjoy most about consulting.

Understanding the real problem is what creates value

The best part of my work is delivering something that genuinely helps the customer. It might sound simple, but creating real value is what motivates me the most. I enjoy the entire process from understanding the customer’s needs to figuring out the right technical solution together.

Very often, customers think they know exactly what they want technically, but underneath, there’s usually a deeper business problem that needs solving. That’s why I always try to step outside the pure developer mindset and focus on understanding the bigger picture first. I spend a lot of time asking questions, understanding the customer’s domain, and figuring out what problem they are actually trying to solve. After the foundation is clear, comes the development work.

Recently, for example, I worked with a customer in the insurance industry who was struggling with performance issues between applications. By analysing logs, visualising data, and identifying bottlenecks, we were able to significantly improve performance and create clear value for the customer.

Bridging technical understanding with customer relationships

When I first started my career, I thought I would become the type of developer who preferred staying in the background and just focusing on code. But after joining Solita, I realised I genuinely enjoy customer interaction.

Over the years, I’ve grown a lot in that area. Today, I’m often brought into projects where communication, collaboration, or customer dialogue needs some extra attention.

I think one of my strengths is being able to bridge technical understanding with communication and customer relationships. That growth has probably been one of the biggest surprises in my own career journey.

Transparency and trust are a big part of Solita’s culture

What I value most about Solita’s culture is the transparency. There’s a strong focus on helping customers in an honest and straightforward way instead of overcomplicating things. We genuinely want to create the best possible value for the customer.

The same mindset is visible internally as well. Colleagues are very supportive, approachable, and willing to help each other.

I’ve heard stories from other companies where the first question when asking for help is where the hours should be registered. Here, the atmosphere feels very different. People help each other because they want to solve problems together.

Failure is a normal part of the process here

One thing I appreciate here is that trying new things is encouraged. Of course, not everything works perfectly on the first try, especially in software development and consulting. But even when something fails, there’s still value in learning what doesn’t work.

For me, the key is transparency. Recently, I worked on improving security in a customer project that included a lot of custom JavaScript code from an earlier implementation. I initially thought it would be a fairly straightforward task, but it turned out to be much more complex than expected.

Instead of hiding the difficulties, I stayed transparent with the customer throughout the process and communicated openly about the challenges. The customer was very understanding because we worked through it together. That openness creates trust both internally and externally.

Agility matters more than rigid processes

If I had to name one important skill for succeeding in consulting at Solita, it would probably be agility. Things change constantly. Customers change priorities, requirements evolve, and sometimes the direction shifts completely during a project.

That’s why I don’t believe too much in rigid waterfall-style thinking where everything is decided upfront. Instead, I think it’s important to stay adaptable and open to change while continuously improving together with the customer. Especially now, with AI rapidly changing the industry, adaptability has become even more important.

AI is changing our work, but I see it as another tool

AI is definitely changing software development and consulting. I understand why some people feel uncertain about it, especially junior developers, because AI can already handle many technical tasks surprisingly well.

At the same time, I personally don’t feel afraid of it. I see AI as another tool in our toolbox. Roles are changing and becoming more abstract and higher-level, but I believe there will still be a strong need for people who continue learning, adapting, and understanding the bigger picture. Technology has always evolved, and our work evolves with it.

Family life and a side projects keep me busy

Outside of work, a lot of my time revolves around family life. I live with my wife and our two kids, so life is quite full. I also enjoy running and working out. I’ve participated in events like the Copenhagen Marathon and Bridge Run together with other Solitans. On top of that, I also enjoy coding and working on software development projects in my spare time. It’s a great way to explore new technologies and continue learning outside of work.

Overall, I enjoy staying busy. Things are constantly evolving both in technology and in my own work, and that continuous change is something I genuinely enjoy.
