I want to be at the forefront of AI development
I work as an AI Engineer, and my role is very broad by nature. AI is evolving so fast that no two projects are exactly alike, which is one of the things I enjoy the most about this work.
My background is especially in AI agents and generative AI, but recently I’ve also worked with Edge AI, DevSec-related projects and different types of AI-assisted development processes. At the moment, I’m particularly interested in the intersection of robotics, AI agents, and locally running AI systems.
What excites me the most isn’t only the technology itself, but also the bigger questions behind it. I’m fascinated by intelligence, how biological systems work, and what it means to create intelligent systems.
A few years ago, I already felt that AI was going to become something very transformative for society. I wanted to be part of that change and help steer it in a good direction. There are so many ethical, societal, and environmental questions connected to AI, and I believe we need people who genuinely care about where this technology is heading.
That’s one of the reasons why working at Solita feels meaningful to me. I feel like I can contribute to something bigger while continuously learning at the same time.
From restaurant management to AI engineering
My path into tech hasn’t been the most traditional one. Before entering the AI industry, I worked in the restaurant industry in various roles, including shift and coffee shop management.
My interest in AI started when I was living in Norway and spending time with people who worked at an AI startup there, including my girlfriend. Through that experience, I became fascinated by machine learning, neuroscience, and the broader philosophical questions around intelligence.
I started studying at university, but eventually realised that the technology was evolving so rapidly that I learned more efficiently through self-study, hands-on experimentation, and personal projects. The AI field rewards curiosity and continuous learning; once you learn how to teach yourself effectively, you can level up fast. I also spent years reading books, experimenting with models, and following AI research closely. Looking back now, I’m very happy I trusted that path.
Variety, collaboration and AI-assisted development
My typical workdays depend a lot on the project I’m working on. Some days are very technical and focused on development work, while others involve workshops, collaboration and brainstorming with different stakeholders.
One interesting project I recently worked on was related to Collab AI, Solita’s collaborative AI-driven working model. The idea is to bring technical experts, business stakeholders and AI tools together into the same process instead of working in isolated silos.
Rather than having long sequential processes where information slowly moves between teams, people work closely together, make decisions faster and use AI actively throughout the project lifecycle. I found that approach very refreshing because it changes the way people collaborate. AI becomes part of the workflow rather than just a separate tool.
On a practical level, AI is also becoming a natural part of my own daily work. AI agents can help with coding and repetitive tasks, while I focus on the bigger picture, architecture and problem-solving.
Freedom to grow
Even though I’ve only been here for less than a year, the learning curve has been incredibly steep in a good way. One thing I appreciate is that people are trusted to steer their own growth and development. Of course, there are business needs and limits, but there’s still genuine freedom to explore areas that interest you.
For me, that has meant moving closer towards robotics and Edge AI, even though my earlier background wasn’t specifically in those areas. That kind of trust motivates people. It creates an environment where curiosity is encouraged instead of restricted.
A culture that combines ambition with humanity
I would describe Solita’s culture as a combination of startup energy and Nordic wellbeing culture. There’s ambition, innovation, and willingness to move towards future technologies, but at the same time, the environment feels healthy, grounded, and human. People are approachable, hierarchies feel low, and there’s a sense that everyone is working towards the same direction together.
I also appreciate that there’s space for openness and honesty. In our team discussions, people can talk about challenges and feelings in a very natural way without needing to pretend everything is perfect all the time. That creates psychological safety, which is very important in fast-moving expert work.
An unexpectedly popular AI session
One memorable moment during my first months here happened when I held an internal info session about AI agents and the future of large language models. At that point, I had only been at the company for around two months, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought maybe twenty people would show up.
Instead, over 300 people attended the session. Apparently, it became one of the most viewed internal expert sessions at Solita, which completely surprised me. Maybe it resonated because I wanted to make complicated AI concepts understandable and practical for everyone. At the time, many people were still trying to understand what large language models were actually changing and why the technology mattered in practice.
It turned into a really rewarding experience and a strong reminder of how curious people are about AI right now.
Snowboarding, biology and endless curiosity
Outside work, I spend a lot of time reading, building personal AI-related projects, and snowboarding, which is also one of the reasons why I’m moving to Lapland. Nature and slower surroundings feel increasingly important to me right now.
I’m also endlessly fascinated by biology. In many ways, I see similarities between studying biological systems and studying AI. Both reveal incredibly complex and surprising forms of intelligence and adaptation.
This curiosity is probably what connects all my interests together. Whether it’s AI, neuroscience, biology, or technology, I’m always interested in understanding how complex systems work beneath the surface.
