Who are you and what is your role?
Data Engineering wasn’t my first choice. But I’m here today with a bit of a different background compared to a lot of my colleagues. Here’s my story!
I grew up in the countryside in Sweden. Medelpad, not quite the metropole of Europe, but a place nonetheless. I grew up with lumberjacking, snowmobiles and a lot of forests! My road to data engineering started at university. However, not straight away.
I’m an economist, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in FEI in accounting. After graduating, I started working as an Accountant, which I did for 7 years. But I realised that wasn’t it for me. I always felt a bit misplaced and went back to school, where I studied IT, more specifically Marketing and IT. Then I felt the pull of data, and I got stuck. And today I’ve been here at Solita for 2 years (2025) and I love being a Data Engineer.
How did you arrive at Solita of all places?
Well, I was working at a company where we had a lot of Solita experts. And I noticed they were all good and competent consultants. So, I thought, “I wonder what it’s like working there”. Then I got to know these Solitans better, and when I heard about the company and culture, I was sold. The rest is history.
The culture pulled me in, the competent colleagues, the sharing of ideas, the autonomy and much more. Those are also the reasons that keep me here. I love working at Solita. I get to work with cool tech, Snowflake, DBT in my case (primarily), I get to spend time with some top-tier people AND some really interesting projects. (And we have some really fun parties and after works!)
Who are you outside of work?
I usually say that “I like throwing sweaty people into the mat”. I’m obviously talking about judo. I’ve been practicing judo ever since upper secondary school, so my late teens. And I love it. I’m proud to say I’m a blackbelt and it’s a really nice way to unwind and change focus for an hour or two.
Judo has prepared me for working as a Data Engineer, but also as an accountant, for that matter. Judo is all about discipline, coordination, time and power. I think consultancy work has a lot of similarities. Judo places a subtle emphasis on mindful movements, and that has been really helpful for me personally and also professionally.
Any highlights to mention?
One exciting experience was being part of a huge, cross-functional project. We were 9+ consultants working in a huge data project, and being part of a highly efficient data team with basically the full data stack was both exciting and a great learning experience. There was a lot of coordinating, orchestrating and actually just doing – it was great!
Another highlight I have to mention was at one of our conferences. We went to the Stockholm archipelago and had a sailing competition. It was the first time I’ve been sailing, and it was so much fun. I’ve never sailed before, but now I get it. It’s awesome!
What does the future bring?
I’m excited and interested in a lot of things related to data. I’d love to dive deeper into data architecture or combine my roles, with my background in economics and my competence in tech and data.
I don’t really know what the future brings – there’s so much I’d love to do and only so little time. We’ll see. But I’m convinced I’ll find something exciting here. Maybe become a full-time Sailor for Solita?
