The Shelf: Where IoT and mobile meet
Three of our interns are working as IoT Engineers on a project called The Shelf. This project gives them the opportunity to work with various technologies while solving real-world problems. Here’s what they had to say about their experiences:
“As an intern IoT Engineer I am currently working on the project called ‘The Shelf’. So far, I have worked with GitHub action workflow and configured pipelines for the project by making YAML files. Right now, I am learning and seeing a lot of things I haven’t had to work with before, so it is a bit challenging but in the best way. Nothing beats the feeling of learning something new and eventually succeeding in using that knowledge. I am excited to learn and do a lot more during my time at Solita 😊”
“I learned quite some new things in my first days here, like working with Terraform, NestJS, GitHub workflows… Before I came here, I knew nothing about Terraform and now I understand why it plays a crucial part in configuring architecture. Currently, I am working with two other interns on a project called “The Shelf” and I really like working on it.
“In my first weeks, I have learned a lot, including working with Terraform for cloud infrastructure, NestJS with TypeORM for backend development, and Reactive frameworks for the front end. Currently, I am collaborating with my team on developing a mobile application to monitor and control IoT devices, and I find the work both challenging and rewarding.”
The Shelf is more than just an internship project—it’s a deep dive into cloud infrastructure, backend development, and mobile applications that make IoT technology more accessible and efficient.
Exploring API management as an API gateway engineer
Meanwhile, another intern is taking a different route as an API gateway engineer, focusing on API management and cloud platforms:
“I’m really enjoying my API Gateway Engineer internship at Solita. Right now, I’m preparing a demo with Gravitee on an Azure VM, which I’ll be presenting next week. I’m also looking forward to exploring other API management platforms like Azure APIM and Kong soon. It’s been an awesome journey so far; I’ve really enjoyed learning about API gateways and developing practical skills.”
API gateways play a crucial role in managing and securing API traffic, and this internship provides hands-on experience with key industry tools. With presentations, demos, and real-world implementation, this intern is gaining skills that will set them up for a strong future in API management.
