What does the word ”integration” bring to mind? Before I started working with integrations, my impression of the word was that it was mainly used when enabling point-to-point messaging between two applications. That is not the case today. The world of integrations is much wider and more varied, as integration technologies and architecture have developed rapidly in recent years, and integration and API solutions play an increasingly critical role in business. This also means that there are many stumbling blocks in integration and API projects. Our new guide will tell you about the thirteen steps of successful projects and how you can be sure to achieve your desired business benefits.
As I have worked in various integration projects and with different customers, I have come to realise that the best result is achieved when the parties possess at least a working knowledge of modern integration and API development, as well as the areas of integration projects that are key for optimal results. The concepts related to integrations are also quite abstract, and once you explain them, your discussions will become more fruitful. This inspired the idea of writing a guide that would serve as an overview of the world of integrations and APIs and provide guidelines for success in integration and API projects.
The guide starts by explaining the concept of integration and the different implementation methods that exist. We then proceed with a discussion of enterprise integration patterns which are shared by different integration architectures and used for processing messages and data. Finally, we give a general introduction to the technologies used to develop integrations and APIs.
The guide covers the thirteen steps of successful integration development that research has shown to be essential for the success of integration and API projects in achieving the best possible end result. These steps are divided into four categories:
- organisational factors
- integration strategy, architecture and project management
- technology
- communication and interaction.
I hope the guide will give you new information and knowledge about the world of integrations and APIs, the success factors of integration and API projects, and new perspectives and ideas about the possibilities of integration and APIs.
