Metso’s online service – a unique platform for information sharing

Metso is the world’s leading industrial company when it comes to providing services for the mining and aggregates and flow control industries. Metso wanted to revamp its global metso.com website into a more customer-driven and sales supportive direction. We realised the renewed Metso.com service, which offers customers a new way to find solutions for the needs of their business.

Metso’s various business areas needed an online channel in which they could highlight customer stories, create sales opportunities and guide customers’ paths online in an increasingly active manner and with better results.

Due to their convoluted structure, the old webpages no longer served users’ needs, and the wealth of content accumulated on the pages over the years had become difficult to find. The user experience also suffered from an outdated content management system which complicated efficient content production.

A phased-in revamp

We implemented Metso’s new online service with EPiServer technology. The renewal began from the Metso Showroom service, with an emphasis on customer stories, after which the entire metso.com website was revamped in phases. The thoroughly renewed content now has an increasingly clear focus on the company’s customer industries, such as the mining, aggregates and oil and gas sectors. Customers were asked to give feedback on the renewal from a very early stage onward.

The goal of the renewal was to have a service focused on the things that are important to customers and other stakeholders and brings content to the fore.

Google’s Search Appliance solution was used to design a new comprehensive search functionality, which facilitates the location of the extensive content, including services, solutions and product packages. For the benefit of Finnish customers, all of the essential data related to business is also available in Finnish.

Relevant content easily available

The website is now clear and easy to use and offers plenty of interesting content to various branches of industry. The efficient search function helps users to find the information they need fast, and the service paths guide customers to the right content, such as customer stories, videos and product images – 24/7, at the users’ convenience. The entire service has gained a fresh look.

On-schedule implementation

The renewal’s pilot phase and actual implementation were completed on schedule, and the end result is welcomed.

“Content production, in particular, has become more efficient and effortless with the new website. Our customers have also welcomed the revamp, and they use the site’s content more than they used to,” says Richard Farkas of Metso.

The new content management system allows Metso to produce, manage and publish multilingual content to its target markets in an efficient manner. The renewed service supports Metso’s sales and improves the company’s appreciation of customer behaviour and the development of customer service. The work to revamp local webpages continues.
