Remote work stories: Sanna Laitinmäki

We started our company-wide remote working on Friday 13th of March. A #remotework channel was created on Slack, and since then our community has been sharing tips on staying sane and funny stories from their new remote working life. We asked a few of these people to share their stories and their “new normal”.

This is Sanna’s story:

What is your role? Which team?

My name is Sanna Laitinmäki and I am a Service Designer in our Design and Strategy unit. This spring I have also been responsible for communication at Solita Health, which is our health and wellness sector focused unit. This involved e.g. participating in planning how we present our health and wellness solutions offering and organising internal events. In addition to this I am one of our family mentors and I have been designing our family friendliness at Solita.

What are you working on?

This week I am working mostly with our two health solutions: Omaolo and Pulse. In Omaolo I’m part of our design team where I’m responsible for the content. We have a great team and we get to work closely daily with other inspiring professionals including other Solitans, our collaborator partners and clients. In Pulse my role is mostly to gather and analyse customer and organisational insight so that we can design Pulse to meet the special needs of each client. It is very motivating to participate in a change management project like this. Today we will meet a new potential client and hope to be able to help them with our solution.

What do you love about your job? How long have you worked at Solita?

I have been working at Solita for 4 + years. I love that my job is so variable. I can work at the same time in two projects which are totally different – for example my clients might be from very different industries and my role may vary from project management to strategy and concept design. I love to be busy in project work, but I also love to listen to our clients and potentials clients and find them new opportunities.I like our warm culture and one example of this was In April. I visited the office with my kids and picked up my new phone. The office was almost empty. While I was retrieving a phone from the shelf, someone of my colleagues gave a lemonade bottle to my kids. This was a big thing to them – thank you!

What’s your biggest passion(s)?

My biggest passion is to work with people and understand them – why people feel differently and why they have different preferences. I’m happy that I can take advantage of this in my work. I love listening people –whether they are our clients, our clients’ clients or stakeholders or my wise colleagues.

What’s your most impactful experience at Solita so far?

I’m proud that this spring I had the chance to work in the Omaolo’s coronavirus symptom check-up project. The coronavirus symptom check-up function of the Omaolo.fi service was developed by SoteDigi Oy, Kustannus Oy Duodecim and THL. Solita, together with Mediconsult Oy, is the application development and analytics partner for the service. The check-up is used by almost 500,000 Finnish citizens. This is really impactful!

What brightens your #remotework day?

Even though I have been working remotely regularly before coronavirus, it was very different to work remotely with my husband when both of our kids were home. I have started to go running before my workday begins. I love the morning sea scenery from the island of Katajanokka, where I live. I never listen to music while I am running. I like to listen to the sounds of nature. These morning runs really brightened my days. In May, I also participated in the virtual Naisten Kymppi with some colleagues. Oh yeah, and then I have started to eat fresh pineapple in the mornings! It is so good that it brightens your day immediately.

Have a nice summer! And be a pineapple: stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet inside.
