We started our company-wide remote working on Friday 13th of March. A #remotework channel was created on Slack, and since then our community has been sharing tips on staying sane and funny stories from their new remote working life. We asked a few of these people to share their stories and their “new normal”.
This is Antti’s story:
What is your role? Which team?
I am a Senior Cloud Consultant. Our team is about 8 members and we cover every public cloud service provider. “Onhan näitä tehty”.
What are you working on?
I work with public cloud platforms, mainly AWS and Azure. And anything that even vaguely smells like Internet, or on-premises, or computers for that matter. We have lots of customer projects from every step a companys’ Cloud Journey entails. Most recently I have been working quite a bit with Terraform and Azure Kubernetes Service. But I am also involved in things like Azure Machine Learning and AWS Sagemaker, while I have no clue what they actually do.
What do you love about your job? How long have you worked at Solita?
Oh geez, I have been here for a year and a half now – since Dec 2018. But it definitely feels longer. Our team has been growing a lot since I joined and I am already one of the older farts (physically and mentally). A good work day is to see things come to fruition, to actually provide value to the customers – especially on the individual level when they learn something new (which I taught them).
What’s your biggest passion(s)?
I enjoy working around the house, going outside, running in the forest without a watch. The only semi-passionate thing I can do every day is espresso. My wife and 3 kids make sure I have no room for personal interests. This is reality but not the desired state, so one day in the future I will find time and get a project car going. Perhaps some older American muscle car.. I also own a motorcycle which is increasing in value due to the low mileage every year!
What’s your most impactful experience at Solita so far?
The induction period. I still cannot believe the hippie culture. The speed is another difficult thing to grasp at Solita, things keep happening all the time and an old corporate fart like me finds it remarkable.
What brightens your #remotework day?
The lack of travel I do. Spring is outside and I can simply put some pants on and go chop wood when the hours are full – no travel, no commute. Spending more time with my immediate family and less with the not-so immediate family is of course a nice little bonus to the lockdown. Another great thing every day are the colleagues’, of which I have one here in the Turku office and more elsewhere.
