This is Riika, our Integration Specialist.
I appreciate the flexibility and balance
I’m a newbie at Solita: I joined at the beginning of the year. I’m on partial parental leave, so my working hours are only 60 %. It was a nice surprise that it worked out, and I was able to start with reduced hours. I’ve also had a lot of flexibility in arranging my work schedules. I’ve been able to combine work and family life without issues, and I’ve felt that it’s something that is encouraged here.
The culture at Solita feels very human. I’ve felt welcome and included from the beginning. I’ve also noticed that Solitans are good at sharing knowledge. People are supporting each other to do their best work.
Everything is still quite new for me, so I’m learning and getting to know the company. I work with integrations: in my current role, mostly with development and coding. I’ve used several different technologies before joining Solita: HiQ FRENDS I’m most familiar with. In my new role here, I’ve had the opportunity to start learning Microsoft Azure. Solita uses the latest technology, which was one of the motivators for me to join the company. The next technology on my learning list is Dell Boomi.
In the future, I’d like to focus more on integration architecture. We have a lot of freedom in deciding how we want to develop and what we want to learn next. Solita is a big company, so there are options to choose which direction to take. I’ve also noticed that Solita is putting a lot of effort into learning and development. We are encouraged to do certificates and take courses. The company covers the expenses and part of our work time is budgeted for developing our skills. The rest is up to us employees.
High ethical standards and meaningful purpose matter to me
So far, I’ve worked with one customer, where we’ve had different projects. I’m currently working with an international web store production: we are launching in the US. It’s a special case because the web store is already functioning in Canada. Our job is to make sure that we can transfer the same concept to the US, keep the parts that serve well and change the parts that need customisation. It’s nice to be part of the customer’s international journey. I also like the idea of bringing Finnish quality products to American consumers.
It’s important to me that the customer organisation’s values align with mine. High ethical standards and meaningful purpose matter to me, and I like to work with organisations that contribute to the world somehow. At the end of the day, it’s the customers that bring meaning to my work.
I’ve heard that Solita has declined from some projects that didn’t align with the company values. I was also told that people don’t need to take projects that don’t align with their personal values. I think it’s wonderful, and it shows that Solita is a value-driven company.
