My time at Solita has been full of adventures
I joined Solita in 2017 and started working with data: my previous experience was primarily front end development and entrepreneurship. I became interested in data when I realised that the world needed better knowledge management. Experience is not enough anymore, it matters, but there is so much information available that it’s hard to get an overview of what’s important. Solita is the leading data house in the Nordics, so it’s been the right place for me.
My time at Solita has been full of adventures. I’ve been able to do a lot of things and include some international experience in my path. I was part of the team opening the offices in Sweden and Estonia. During those times, I was travelling a lot. I also initiated the idea of opening an office in Germany. Some weeks later, I found myself in Munich starting our German operations with the project team. I ended up staying there for two years and returned to Finland only recently.
I’ve also had the pleasure to work with interesting clients and fun projects. Business Finland is one of them. They wanted to update their operations to be more data-driven and transparent. The target was to centralise the data spread across several systems and lay the groundwork for more analytical knowledge-based management and the development of new services. The solution was a data platform that combines modern cloud technology and the on-premises world uniquely: it enables new services that, together with the platform, supports Business Finland’s functions in promoting Finnish export and help companies to create new jobs.
I enjoy being out of my comfort zone
I love learning new things and the best place to do that is out of my comfort zone. I like to keep my scope wide, and different client projects bring me the variety I’m after. I’m quite self-driven, and I enjoy my freedom a lot, but there are also support networks and coaching available if that’s needed. I like the fact that I can impact how I want to work and what I want to do. Within a certain framework, there is plenty of space to do your own thing.
Clients, of course, define our ways of working as well. All clients are different, but we normally decide together as a team how we will work together. When the client trusts us, we have plenty of space to do our work well and share our views.
I think most of my learning generally happens in projects. Working with our clients is a great learning platform: every project has taught me something new. There are also a lot of formal learning opportunities that Solita offers: courses, webinars – you name it. I completed an Azure certificate in the spring. I got an overload from webinars, so I’ve taken a break from them.
Getting a sneak peek into the future
Many things make my job meaningful: people, projects and technological development. Solita’s client portfolio is impressive, and we get to work with many top companies. I’m able to do several projects simultaneously, and it’s easy to rotate in the projects. All this contributes to my learning and growth and keeps me inspired.
The world is revolving around technology, and we get to be at the forefront of development. We do many things behind closed doors and sign heavy non-disclosure agreements. In a way, we can get a sneak peek into what the future holds. It makes this job very interesting!
